To this day I am both impressed and terrified when I see guys cruising around on stilts. I’m sure they’d probably feel similarly if they caught a glimpse of us walking plates. To each their own I guess!

Not the most complicated frame by any means. Feels like it took longer than it should’ve...but I guess between a little back and forth to different jobs, rain, people taking time off, more rain, it actually wasn’t too bad.

Interesting side note: if you look closely at the foundation on the bottom left you can see a kind of a perimeter on the right side of the concrete. That is an existing concrete pad from before the #montecitomudslide that we decided to re-use. The mud had destroyed the structure that previously sat atop it and, in the process it ate away at the top of the slab on its edges. In order to have a place for the plates to sit, we saw cut the whole perimeter 6” in and I believe 4” deep, shot in some forms, tied into the existing slab with a teeny bit of steel and used a non shrink grout to rebuild the edges. Worked out pretty well. We laid some epoxy down on that thing too as the condition of the vapor barrier was questionable.

Lifting a couple glulams into place (for the second time) with the old hand powered genie lift. These will support the ridge at the ridge-hip connections. We had them all up earlier this week but found ourself architecturally challenged. Architect needed to gain a couple inches on the soffit for the exterior doors to clear, so we added some 4x and extra 2x on our double top plate (a first for all of us). Roof, round two, should be up and finished in no time!

It’s been fun to watch Juan go these last couple weeks. Fast, graceful, cuts are precise, nails go exactly where he wants them, and he makes a mistake about as often as I come up with clever/funny Instagram captions (sorry folks) — like watching ballet, but with more sawdust.
